Winning by a margin of four strokes and with 11 under par, Scottie Scheffler claimed his second victory in The Masters in 2024.
Held at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, US, Scheffler pipped runner-up Ludvig Åberg to the win, taking home $3,600,000 for his trouble.
It was pretty much neck-and-neck as initially, Scheffler appeared to only have Bryson DeChambeau as his main rival.
However, a poor third round from DeChambeau and some excellent golf from Scheffler and it was all but a done deal.
Ludvig Åberg, who was playing in his first major, made a stunning coming back, finishing on -7 and earning himself $2,160,000.
With the first of the season’s four majors now done and dusted and with the PGA Championship, The US Open, and The British Open still to come, there is plenty left to play for.
Can Scheffler maintain his number-one position in the world and vie for The Masters again in 2025?
He has some tough competition and no doubt the rest of 2024 will heavily influence the odds as the season continues, but for now, he is the man that everybody has to beat.

The list above is not complete, as over 150 golfers will take part in The Masters in 2025.
While anybody can have the round of their life, it takes real skill to maintain the form needed to win one of the biggest sporting titles in the world.
Scheffler is definitely playing his best golf, and the odds of him winning will be quite short.
Often, it is a good idea to look at the promotions bookmakers are running on the tournament, and if they are paying to 10 places, consider backing a player on good form who could finish in the top 10.
Their odds tend to be much longer and could return more money on your bet.
Can Scheffler Win It Again In 2025?
If only we had a crystal ball to determine if Scottie Scheffler will be able to win The Masters again in 2025.
To be clear, we don’t have a crystal ball, but we do have historical statistics.
ittedly, they’re not as sexy or intriguing, but they can point us in the right direction.
So firstly, we can look at past Masters Tournaments to see how often a player has won it in consecutive years. This will give us an idea of the frequency of back-to-back wins.
We’ll assume that the probability of winning the Masters Tournament in any given year is independent of whether the player won it in the previous year.
This assumption simplifies the calculation but may not fully capture the nuances of golf performance and player form.
We’ll also use the historical data to estimate the probability of a player winning back-to-back Masters Tournaments.
If, for example, out of 100 years of data, a player has won back-to-back Masters Tournaments 5 times, then the probability would be 5%.
So, here are the statistical odds of Scottie Scheffler winning back-to-back Masters Tournaments (2024 & 2025):
Since 1934, there have been 90 Masters Tournaments (up to 2024).
Only three players have won back-to-back Masters victories:
- Jack Nicklaus won back-to-back in 1965 and 1966
- Tiger Woods won back-to-back in 2001 and 2002
- Nick Faldo won back-to-back in 1989 and 1990
If he maintains his form, the probability of Scheffler winning the Masters in 2025 is:
3/90 × 100% = 1/30 × 100% = 3.33%
That means, statistically, his odds are approximately 3.33%.
Other Influencing Factors
Let’s be honest here, if everything was decided on statistics, there would never be a surprise winner, an underdog snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, or a fairy tale ending in any sport.
The real world doesn’t always go the way of the stats, and while on paper, certain players or teams have an edge, that doesn’t always translate on the field, or in this case, the golf course.
There are other outside influences that we have to consider.
First and foremost is player form which is crucial. If they are playing exceptionally well leading up to the tournament, their chances of winning again may be higher.
Scheffler is most definitely on form, but a year is a long time in golf, and one bad mistake may hamper his chances. Best to come back to this closer to the event in 2025 to see how he is playing!
The weather in Augusta also presents unique challenges each year. Changes in weather conditions, course setup, and alterations to the course layout can impact a player’s performance.
The quality of the field of competitors also plays a role. DeChambeau was a clear leader in 2024 in the early rounds, but form dipped, and he ended up tied for 6th place.
And, like any sport, golf involves an element of luck. A bounce of the ball, a timely putt, or great weather conditions can all impact the outcome of The Masters.
What Do Masters Winners Get?
Perhaps the most iconic prize in golf, the winner of The Masters is awarded a green jacket, which has been a tradition since 1949.
The jacket is presented to the champion by the previous year’s winner and signifies hip to the exclusive club of Masters champions.
The champion gets to keep the jacket for one year and then returns it to the Augusta National Golf Club, where it is stored in a designated locker until the following year’s tournament.
In addition to the Green Jacket, the winner receives a replica of the Masters Trophy, which is a silver replica of the Augusta clubhouse. The trophy itself remains at Augusta National but the champion receives a smaller replica to keep.
The winner also receives %3,600,000 (2024), up from $3,240,000 which Jon Rahm won in 2023.
The total purse varies each year, but for 2024, it was in the range of $20 million.
Masters champions are also granted lifetime exemptions into the tournament, meaning they can continue to compete in the Masters for as long as they wish, provided they remain active players and meet eligibility criteria set by the Augusta National Golf Club.
